More than 40 city acts are playing across 12 stages for this year’s Oxjam Takeover, raising money for Oxfam.

The music starts from noon in a series of daytime shows at Royal Pavilion Tavern in Castle Square, Seven Stars in Ship Street, The Hobgoblin in York Place and a battle of the bands organised by Access To Music College at 10Below in Ship Street.

Adding to the evening programme are The Mucky Duck in Manchester Street and Under The Bridge Studios in Trafalgar Street Arches, which is hosting a live broadcast by Radio Free Brighton.

Acoustic coffee shop concerts are also on during the day in Brighton Dome Studio Theatre Bar, in New Road, Moksha in York Place, Oxfam Books And Music in Kensington Gardens, Small Batch Coffee outlets at Seven Dials and myhotel in Jubilee Street, and in the evening at Mr Wolfe in Montpelier Place.

On the festival bill are former Download stars Dirty Scavenger, Glass Sines, Jacko Hooper, Normanton Street and Spacenoid, alongside Bent Cousin, Fragile Creatures, Simonne And The Dark Stars and the brilliantly-named Supermega Schwarzenegger.

“We have been inundated with support from local businesses and helpers,” says volunteer marketing manager Tammy Tinawi.

“With 100% of the people involved volunteering their time, efforts and talent, the event would not be able to take place without so much support from the Brighton community.”

Entry is by wristband, which cost £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com, and can be picked up on the day from the Oxjam Brighton hub in Brighton Dome Studio Theatre Bar.
