CALIFORNIA surf meets the Brighton seafront with this new instrumental band Blue Spectre.

Ahead of their appearance at tonight’s Spectrum the Brighton-based band introduce themselves.

“Most of the band have been friends, writing music and playing in other bands together for quite a few years now. The current line up of the band has been together for just shy of a year after a brief hiatus and name change following a run of gigs with another drummer.

“Blue Spectre is the instrumental surf of 1960s California reimagined in the cold stormy seas of Britain and sent through a prism of punk rock, film noir and psychedelia. The music tastes of the band are fairly eclectic. Influences include classic surf like Link Wray and Dick Dale as well as Joe Meek and Phil Spector and soundtrack stuff like David Lynch, Angleo Badalamenti and Ennio Morricone.

“We have a demo EP available digitally on Bandcamp which was recorded 18 months ago with our old drummer. We are hoping to get back into the studio before the end of the year to record a new EP. We are looking for a small independent label to put out this record, if we cannot find one then we will release it ourselves.”
