On The Radar #73 ElleKaye

FOLLOWING the release of debut single Bichon Frisé and an appearance at The Great Escape last month, Brighton's ElleKaye introduce themselves.

"We are Lewis Kane, Thomas Hazel, Antony Bullinger and Benjamin Gibbs. We met whilst studying in Brighton in 2012 and have been writing and performing together ever since.

"Our main influences are Interpol, Pulp, Craig David, post university blues and London Road, Brighton.

"In terms of our biggest gigs last year's YNOT festival was crazy. We've played the Camden Roundhouse too which was equally as crazy. Got some free clothes out of that one too. So The Roundhouse wins.

"Bichon Frisé was all of our Mums' favourite track, so our hands were tied. It's a word of caution to potential Bichon Frisé owners. They're notoriously high maintenance. It can also be interpreted as a 'hate song' (opposite of love song) as I'd recently been dumped when I wrote it, but hopefully the jolly bouncy riff takes the edge of the hate.

"We're playing a tour in November with My Life Story and will be releasing our debut album shortly."

ElleKaye play just across the Sussex border at the Tunbridge Wells Forum, in The Common, on Sunday, June 28.
