UB40

Brighton Centre, King’s Road, Tuesday, May 3

HAVING left the band in 2008 to embark on a solo career, original UB40 lead vocalist Ali Campbell is reuniting with Astro and Mickey Virtue to revisit two of their biggest hit albums.

Released in 1983 Labour Of Love saw the band tackle songs by their musical idols and reimagine them in a reggae style. It was home to the band’s first number one in both the UK and US - a cover of Neil Diamond’s Red Red Wine, as well as new versions of Jimmy Cliff’s Many Rivers To Cross and Eric Donaldson’s Cherry Oh Baby.

The album’s sequel, Labour Of Love Part Two followed in 1989 and was home to hits Kingston Town, Homely Girl and Here I Am (Come And Take Me).

This tour of UK arenas concludes the reunited trio’s two-year world tour, which has seen them play Las Vegas and release an album of new material Silhouette.

Campbell's former band mates are playing the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill tonight (Oct 2) also under the UB40 name, supporting their 2013 album Getting Over The Storm.
