THE singer and guitarist of The Gaslight Anthem, Brian Fallon, makes inroads into a solo career with his first album.

Fallon’s album Painkillers was produced by studio superstar Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Frank Turner, Keith Urban) and recorded earlier this year at Nashville’s Taxidermy Studios.

Fallon fronted a crack band that includes Walker, Molly and The Zombies bassist Catherine Popper (Jack White, Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, Willie Nelson) and drummer Mark Stepro (Hayes Carll, Ben Kweller, Jackson Browne). Painkillers booms with insistent imagery, narrative craft and the emotional acuity that has informed his music since the very start.

Fallon says, “The album sits really well with me now.

“I didn’t feel weird about any of it. I knew it was done and I was pretty excited about it, so there were no worries about songs needing more work or anything.

“It’s like that old David Bowie approach – once an album is done, you leave it and move on to the next thing. Playing it on tour this summer reaffirmed that people really liked it, which was good. I mean, I don’t think I was trying to break down any walls with Painkillers; I was trying to do what I do in the best possible way at that moment.”

He heralds the album with a series of live dates, including the Brighton show.

On stage he is accompanied by Gaslight Anthem guitarist Alex Rosamilia, The Horrible Crowes’ Ian Perkins and the aforementioned Catherine Popper.

The gigs got underway in the US before coming over to Europe.

The Gaslight Anthem recently announced plans to go on a hiatus following a European tour that culminated in a headline show at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire and appearances at Reading and Leeds.
