The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote Of La Mancha

Brighton Dome Studio Theatre, New Road, Thursday, November 5

THE Argus Angel-winning team behind Brighton Fringe hit You And Me return with a reimagining of one of Spain’s finest works of literature.

The Stage Award-winning show by Little Soldier Productions, supported by Brighton’s own Spymonkey, revolves around a recreation of one of the world’s best-loved pieces of literature.

But the team have never read the book or listened to the warnings of Terry Gilliam whose attempts to film the story met a sticky end.

The show mixes physical comedy with live music courtesy of a Spanish guitarist.

Co-artistic director Mercè Ribot admits the whole project was a risk – especially for a relatively new company.

“The logic told us not to do it, at least just yet,” she says.

“But the heart speaks differently, and has its own particular desires.

“Ours set us a challenge which very much mirrors that of Don Quixote the dreamer, the madman who jumps on his steed and sets off for the unknown.

“He doesn’t have much aside from his epic conviction, incredible passion and relentless persistence. Now in the early delirium of parenthood, we invite everyone to celebrate the joy and madness with us, the ‘there is never a right time’; the ‘we’ll do it when we grow up’…

“We are aiming for the moon and won’t settle for less.”
