Tell Me On A Sunday

The Hawth, Hawth Avenue, Crawley, Thursday, March 17

Theatre Royal Brighton, New Road, Sunday, April 10

THE musical which tore apart the songwriting team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice is back on tour, with Jodie Prenger taking the role of the young English girl looking for love in New York years before Carrie Bradshaw et al.

Originally conceived as a series of TV shows starring Elaine Paige following Rice and Lloyd Webber’s smash-hit Evita, the project became trans-Atlantic when new lyricist Don Black – of Born Free fame - came on board, and Marti Webb took on the role of the girl.

Home to the hit single Take That Look Off Your Face, the original song cycle has also starred Lulu, Gemma Craven, Sarah Brightman and Bernadette Peters, before Denise Van Outen took the lead in a longer revised version in 2003. Its most recent tour starred Claire Sweeney as The Girl.

Prenger rose to fame through the BBC talent search I’d Do Anything where she won the role of Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh’s West End production of Oliver!

She has since taken on the role of The Lady In The Lake in Spamalot – including residencies in Brighton – the National Theatre’s One Man, Two Guvnors, and has her own BBC Radio 2 show.

This touring version of the show is directed by Paul Foster, with musical supervision by Catherine Jayes.

Each performance will conclude with a Q and A session with Prenger about life, love and playing the role of Emma.
