When I wrote about prominent members of the Jewish community in Brighton and Hove, I missed out Jack Cohen, managing director of Jaycee Furniture.

His sister, Anne Conn, tells me he went to school at Middle Street before designing and making furniture.

After war service, he started his own business in Farm Road, Hove, before moving to a much larger building in Woodingdean, where he employed many local people. He expanded abroad to run a factory in Germany.

Anne says: “We were all very proud of him and Jaycee Furniture still holds its name. He died aged 51 of a heart attack. What a loss.”
