Is there a problem with Brighton's Christmas lights?

The Argus: Rude and offensive images can be seen in a video of Brighton's Christmas lights Rude and offensive images can be seen in a video of Brighton's Christmas lights

A video showing rude images and angry slogans in Brighton's Christmas lights is proving to be a viral hit on the internet.

The YouTube video shows lights in Western Road and Churchill Square.

It is a spoof using special effects to create the image of a body part and the comment "I hate my job" within the Christmas lights.

Councillor Jason Kitcat, leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, said: “The video is a creative spoof, but it is making people smile and getting thousands of people talking about Brighton and Hove in the run up to Christmas.

"That has got to be good news for the city and good news for its traders.

“The lights are paid for and put up by local traders through the Business Improvement District 'Brilliant Brighton', not the council.

"I'm sure they will be delighted at the extra publicity at their busiest time of the year.”

Have you noticed anything unusual in Brighton's Christmas lights? Let us know by emailing news@theargus.co.uk

Before watching the video please be aware it contains offensive images and may be not safe for work.

The big shops make £millions in profit - especially at Christmas and just look at these poor, sparse decorations.

Considering that so many, like Boots, Vodaphone, Topshop, BHS, etc don't pay any tax either - they really show themselves to be a disgusting, greedy bunch.

Yes.. I have noticed something unusual about the lights....unlike last year they only seem to be on for part of the day. When I go to work at 6.30 in the morning they are all switched off and it all looks rather dull & boring! So why aren't they on all the time like they were last year. It made the dark nights that bit more cheery!

Brighton has always been poor at Christmas decorations.
Given the general scruffiness of the town centre I'd have thought anything that cheered it up would be welcome.

Also, in North St, there's a huge gap between the decorations, by the pound shop. Is that because some of the shops wouldn't pay?

I wish they wouldn't spend council tax on lights and instead create more facilities for squatters and travellers who are the backbone of this city.

May I suggest you read the article again and in particular this bit
"The lights are paid for and put up by local traders through the Business Improvement District 'Brilliant Brighton', not the council."

No Council tax has been spent on the lights!

Facilities for squatters and travellers. I agree. Like a water cannon to flush them out of the city.
