Generous supermarket customers have helped ensure that Christmas will have some treats for even the most disadvantaged children.

Shoppers at Asda in Crowhurst Road, Brighton, donated 164 toys to The Argus Christmas Appeal.

The appeal, held over three weeks in December, saw dozens of shoppers buy toys from the store and donate them by leaving them in shopping trolleys at the front of the store.

The presents will be given to low income families and disadvantaged and needy children.

Store manager Darren Evans said: “This is the best year we have had for this since we started. It astounds me the amount of money our customers raise.

“They say that charity giving is struggling a bit at the moment, but that’s not we’re seeing in store.”

Agree...WELL DONE. I notice there is no mention in the story about ASDA donating any of the toys.
