A woman was left with a black eye after she was punched in the face by a man during an attack in Bexhill.
The local victim was walking home on Wednesday at about 12.30am when she stopped at the junction of Cranston Avenue and Colebrook Road to clear up after her dog.
She was approached by two people, including a man who asked her the time, and then said he would take her money.
The victim hit him in self defence but he retaliated and punched her in the face, breaking her glasses and giving her a black eye.
The two people ran away, empty handed, towards Tesco.
The man is described as white, in his mid-20s, 5ft 11in tall, of slim build and was wearing a hooded top.
A police spokesman said: “This was a nasty assault and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened.”
