Tourism tax ‘a mistake’ Brighton and Hove councillor admits (From The Argus)

• "It's somewhat misleading for Cllr Bowden to claim the tourism tax is a mistake and to act as if this is the first he's heard about it. This story was covered by the Argus in June 2011 - when it quoted a man called Roger Rolfe, an advisor to Brighton & Hove City Council. Mr Rolfe claimed: "A tourist tax could do an enormous amount of good and really wouldn't be a problem to implement."
  He added: "As long as it's is less than the price of a pint."
  When asked to comment on the proposal, Cllr Bowden's response was somewhat ambivalent. "The impact of tourists is a fine balance," he is quoted as saying. But interestingly, he didn't rule out imposing a tourist tax."
