Young athletes gathered to fight for the title at the 15th Mid Sussex Junior Badminton Tournament held at the Olympos (Freedom Leisure) Haywards Heath.
The two-day tournament attracted players from East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent and Surrey.
The standard was high and the pressure was on for the young players as there were talent scouts from the County Badminton Association sitting in the audience.
The event was officiated by four Badminton England umpires both days, and was run by an organising committee and dozens of volunteers.
There was a record entry of 39 players in the under 10s, 46 players in the under 12s and 58 in the under 14s category.
The under 10 and 12s took to the courts on Saturday, January 26.
Under 10s winners
In the first category, Abigail Thring (Dolphin, Harward Heath) took the gold for the girls’ singles by beating Alyx Maskell (Worthing).
The plate winner was nine-year-old Lowena Bennetto representing Lewes Badminton Club, who beat Lucy Meacher (Chellwood gate).
In the boys under 10 category, the main winner was Thomas Knapp from Skipton Badminton Club, who beat Sam Brackley (Felpham).
Miles Coelho (Brighton) was the plate winner, beating Tristan Hyland (Hastings).
Joshua Oxley and Thomas Knapp were the winning duo at the doubles event, after defeating Louis and Oliver Brett.
The plate-winning pair was awarded to Adam Murray and Roddy McGillivrar (Lewes) who rose to the occasion after beating Felix Atfield Davis and Junior Mutala (Lewes).
On Saturday afternoon it was time for the under 12s to show their skills off.
Under 12s winners
The under 12 singles winner was Robyn Hansom, while Scarlett Cassidy (Chellwood gate) was the plate winner.
Abbey Spencer and Zara Hyland (both representing Hastings) beat Sophie Jones and Sara Jane Banwell (both from Limpsfield) and were crowned the winners of the under 12 doubles event.
The main winner for the boys was Kartik Velayudam and the plate winner was Pritvy Shanker, representing the East Sussex Junior Badminton Club (E.S.J.B.C).
Boys under 12 doubles main winners were Thomas Wood (Triangle, Burgess Hill) and Joshua Hendra (Chellwood Gate) while David Jolliffe and Will Brownless (both from Horsham) were awarded the title of plate winners.
On Sunday, January 27 it was the under 14s who held on to the rackets on their climb to the top.
Under 14s winners
Lauren Kite took home the gold, beating Annie Stone (both from Limpsfield) after winning the singles main category.
Lewes girls competed face to face, but it was Annabel Thompson who beat Amy Fines and got the plate winner title.
Singles winner Lauren Kite and fellow racket mate Annie Stone were crowned the winner of the doubles event.
In the boys event, Jake Davidson from Lewes was the winner after defeating Kevin Jude.
The plate winner of the category was Owen Eastwood from Burgess Hill, who beat Bill Arnold from Haywards Heath.
Doubles winners
The doubles winners were Kieran Holt and Jake Lindsey from Burgess Hill, while the plate winners were Sanmay and Sushir Kamulakala (Tyneside Sharks).
The trophy presentations were made by the president of Sussex Badminton Derek Webb, chairman of the East Sussex Junior Badminton Association and one of the main sponsors fo the event, William Brown, and the chairman of Sussex Badminton Tony Browne.
The under 16 and under 18 badminton categories will be taking place on Sunday, February 3.
