Garden shed burnt to the ground on Whitehawk allotment

A garden shed was razed to the ground on an allotment.

Firefighters from Roedean station were called to the blaze on an allotment at the top of Whitehawk Road at 9.15pm last night.

The battle to put out the flames took crews nearly two hours because of the difficulty in accessing the fire and water from butts in neighbouring patches had to be used to help extinguish the fire.

Firefighters were inundated with calls about the incident which was extremely visible due to its position on the hill.

It is believed the fire was started with a discarded barbeque.

2 hours? Obviously on retained pay...

Extremely visible but they can't get to it?! Used water butts - what happened to the 400 gallons on the pump?
Maybe they've got a hosepipe ban on at present - we haven't had much rain have we!!!!!

The water taps are turned off by the Council over winter.

You'd have thought that the Fire Brigade would have a way of turning on taps that the Council had turned off in their parsimony.

Hats off to the Fire Brigade for carrying on regardless.
