A 31-year-old man has been found dead in the street.

The man, named locally as Steve Bamber, was discovered in front of a garage in Colbourne Avenue, Moulsecoomb, Brighton, by a neighbour on Saturday morning.

Police are treating the death of Mr Bamber, described by friends as a “lovely lad”, as unexplained but not suspicious.

The woman who discovered the body told how she looked out her window on Saturday morning (February 9) to see him slumped on the floor.

She said she initially went about her business but an hour later became concerned.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I went over and he was dead.

“He was lying on the floor and he was smart looking. There was no blood.

“He was wearing a T-shirt that was pulled up and jeans and he had a woolly jumper on. He looked very clean and young, I thought in his 20s.

“I called my neighbour who is a nurse and she said he was dead so we contacted the police.”

'Too young to go'

Other neighbours told how police had visited them and asked if they had heard a noise overnight on Friday to Saturday.

Mr Bamber’s stepsister, who also asked not to be named, said: “RIP Steve. Too young to go and leave so much behind.”

Other friends also paid tribute to him on The Argus’ website.

One reader said he was a “lovely lad”.

They added: “[You] always made me giggle.”

'Lovely bloke'

Another reader said: “I can’t get my head around the fact we are never going to get to see you again such a lovely bloke brilliant dad and brother.

“You will be extremely missed by us all mate, love you.”

Sussex Police attended the scene at 8.45am.

A spokesman said: “Police were called to an address in Colbourne Avenue, Brighton, after reports of a body outside.

“Police can confirm that the body of a male has been found and the matter is being treated as an unexplained death at this time. Police are working with the coroner.”
