Spiegeltent to return to Brighton Festival and Fringe
The Spiegeltent is to return to the Festival and Fringe this year with a world premiere cabaret show from the award winning La Clique company.
The first major announcement of this year’s events comes just days before the official launch of both programmes.
The return of the Spiegeltent is a huge scoop for the city having last appeared back in 2006.
It will be pitched on the Old Steine throughout May and will be shared between the two events.
Julian Caddy, managing director of the Fringe, said: “It’s a great privilege to have been able to bring them back to Brighton. It’s particularly gratifying to welcome them in the year when we have extended by a week to include the summer half term. I can’t wait.”
Andrew Comben, chief executive of the festival, added: “As a major milestone in the international cultural calendar we are delighted that part of our programme will be in this iconic venue again this year, after we brought it to the city for the first time back in 2004.”
This year’s event will also see the return of the Festivals Club, which disappeared with the Spiegeltent back in 2006.
The club, which is staged each evening in the venue, is an opportunity for art lovers to mingle with the performers and artists they have enjoyed during the day. As well as talks and special events there will also be live music, DJs, and cabaret.
Mr Caddy added: “The Famous Spiegeltent International has built up an unparalleled reputation for excellence for over 15 years.”
La Clique is one of the most successful cabaret companies of recent years having picked up a prestigious Olivier award.
The Fringe has also revealed details of other shows to be held in the venue, including fellow cabaret stars Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen and dancer and comedian Movin’ Melvin Brown.
Don’t miss The Argus next week for a comprehensive preview of the Brighton Fringe on Tuesday and the Festival on Wednesday.

The fringe always goes on about the Spiegeltent as if it were unique! There are at least three Spiegeltents at Edinburgh every August!
