You've met the tanned airheads of The Only Way Is Essex and the self-obsessed millionaires of Made In Chelsea.

Now prepare yourselves to be submerged into the hard-partying and music-loving world of Brighton’s event promotions scene.

This Is Brighton is a new YouTube mini-series which is taken the internet by storm.

Written and directed by Brighton duo Howard Kaye and Jamie O’Mara, the short, episodic comedy documentary following the lives of DJs, photographers, socialites and promoters in Brighton has clocked up an impressive 20,000 views in its first few days.

Twenty-five year old Kaye, a promoter of club nights in the city including Bastard Pop at Audio, said he drew on his own experiences of the city’s nightlife where the only club nights that seem to last are strangely named events such as Yolo or Hashtag in West Street venues.

So inspired by the old adage ‘if you can’t beat them , mock them’, Kaye and 24-year-old Jamie O’Mara, videographer of Kaye’s band The Special Ks, started working on a script in early January and filming was carried out over three weeks in February at intermittent times when cast members were available.

As soon as the filming was completed, it was put up on YouTube for thousands to view in less than a week.

The pair had never taken up comedy writing before and their cast have had no previous acting experience either.

The final scenes for episode two were filmed this weekend and it will be available to watch on YouTube this week with the third episode available the week after.

Then, in reality-blurring style, episodes four and five will screen the joke night club event “OMG LOL” that the duo devised for the show.

The film has already made ripples with the cast of Made in Chelsea and the scriptwriters are hoping that some of the Channel 4 show’s cast could even make an appearance in later episodes of This Is Brighton.

Kaye said: “I never expected it to spread as quickly as it has.

“I think the name, This Is Brighton, helps because everybody is so protective of Brighton and everyone is always talking about it.

“When we took the event artwork to the printers, they said ‘what are you doing, this is the most terrible name for a club ever’.

“The venue for the event has already received a complaint from a customer about our night saying it’s not the sort of night they should be promoting, that they shouldn’t be imitating these West Street nights.

“I think 95% of the people who have seen it have got it and found it hilarious but a small number of people think it is real.”
