Up to 20 new jobs are up for grabs in the city’s constructions sector.

They will be offered to job seekers and students who impress employers the most during a free week-long programme of workshops and masterclasses at the American Express Community Stadium.

The Want to Work in Construction initiative, is partnership between Albion in the Community, City College Brighton and Hove and construction companies.

Job seekers will take part in more 20 different sessions covering all aspects of construction including architecture and design, civil and structural engineering and sustainability and ecology.

They will hear from experts who have worked on the Olympic Park and Amex Stadium projects and get the opportunity to visit some of the city's major development sites.

John Orrell, Director of Hemsley Orrell Partnership in Hove, one of the founding partners of the initiative said: “This is a truly unique programme bringing together a wealth of experts from all areas of the construction sector to give young people the opportunity to get work in the industry.

"By the end of the week those that have attended will have gained a real insight into working in construction and many of them will go on to get jobs.”

Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, the government department which oversees house-building and planning said: “The Want to Work in Construction Week is a great way for Brighton and Hove's 16-24 year olds to get the sort of job advice, work experience or apprenticeship opportunities that could help kick start a career or inspire a budding entrepreneur to success.”
