A man had to rescued by firefighters today after getting stuck in sand.
The 54-year-old was collecting bait for fishing when he became trapped up to his knees in Old Shoreham Road, Shoreham.
A passer-by noticed him and dialled 999 at about 7.40am.
A West Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “The technical rescue unit attended and he was freed.
“We left him with paramedics.”
A Shoreham lifeguard said the man, wearing a blue shirt, was asked to sit down and then in a "combined effort" they dug around him.
"He was a bit embarrassed rather than scared," he said.
"But becuase of the tide there was a risk he could down."
