Some of the biggest names in pop music will be performing at a new festival in Brighton later this summer, The Argus can reveal.

Dubbed the “pop spectacular of the year”, SD2 will bring some of the country’s biggest acts to Stanmer Park on Sunday, September 29. Two of the headliners will be announced on Heart at 8am on Wednesday morning – with another exclusive act in Thursday’s Argus.

The brand new one-day festival comes from the organisers of Stanmer Park’s Shakedown festival, which is now in its third year and will take place the day before with Brighton boys Rizzle Kicks headlining.

SD2 promoter Steve Jones said: “Since we started Shakedown back in 2011 we’ve had a lot of enquiries from people wanting us to open the festival up to the under-18 market.

“With Shakedown now firmly established in the Sussex calendar, we all felt it was the perfect time to launch something new to appeal to all ages. “ We’re going for a pop music vibe and are hoping to capture the atmosphere from the Party in the Park days.

“It is something Brighton hasn’t seen for years and we think there is a huge demand for it.

“These days people in Sussex often have to travel up to London to see the biggest acts around, so we’re bringing them closer to home.

“Brighton’s great for up-and-coming talent with lots of festivals that celebrate that and give people a platform to showcase it, but Brighton also has the potential to draw in big acts which is what we’re doing with SD2.

“We’ll be showcasing some of the UK’s biggest artists who have become success- ful around the world.” Steve said he is “really excited” about the line-up.

He said: “When we started we had a shortlist of acts we hoped we’d get to perform and we got the ones we really wanted so we are all thrilled and can’t wait to announce them this week. It is a brilliant line-up to launch SD2 in its first year.”

SD2 is being described as a “great day out for all ages taking place in the picturesque setting of Stanmer Park, one of the most beautiful locations along the south coast”.

Tickets for the festival will go on sale on Friday at 9am on the SD2 website.
