Mean-spirited Guinness World Record bosses have refused to recognise last weekend’s Kate Bush extravaganza as an official record – because the chosen song was not iconic enough.

Saturday saw 300-plus Kate Bush lookalikes perform the dance moves to her 1978 hit Wuthering Heights in Brighton’s Stanmer Park.

But officials have refused to declare it an official world record.

Emily Jenkins, from the Shambush performance group which organised the event, said: “As far as we’re aware there isn’t an existing record – so if we had five people doing it it would have been a record. However, officials told us that the song and dance is not iconic enough.”

Fringe director Julian Caddy described the decision as “outrageous”, adding: “Why Guinness will not recognise 300 people dressed as Kate Bush dancing in a field I will never know.”
