A metal collector has told a gathering of invited guests how he uncovered a hoard of 3,000 Roman coins near his home.
Burwash resident Tim Symonds told an audience at Bexhill Museum about discovering the silver coins which were buried nearly 1,800 years ago.
Mr Symonds told the audience he was taking a shortcut in the pouring rain back to his car when he stopped to pick up a couple of old coins.
Some months later, experts identified the find as significant Roman coins and urged Tim to revisit the site and, after finally remembering the spot, he discovered the large hoard.
Visitors listening to his talk at Bexhill Museum included MP Greg Barker, High Sheriff Graham Peters and Bexhill Town Mayor Frances Winterborn.
The coins are currently on loan to Bexhill Museum having been bought by Brighton and Hove Museums with the help of a Big Lottery grant.
