Brighton is such a vibrant, culturally rich place with theatres, music and parades – it’s great fun.

The May festivities were amazing, showcasing so much talent. The Artists’ Open Houses are fantastic and I wonder why we don’t have more opportunities for local artists to display their beautiful work.

The existing galleries would surely welcome a higher profile for art. Wouldn’t they benefit from increased trade if the city became known as a destination to see good artwork?

In France it is commonplace to allow artists to display their work in public places. There’s even an art market on the railings in Green Park, London.

We have the promenade, much used by visitors – why doesn’t Brighton and Hove City Council cash in on a local resource and encourage artists to display their work there? Would you use the opportunity?
