Your picture of St Bartholomew’s Church in Brighton (The Argus, June 18) jogged my memory.
I went to the junior school there in 1935. I lived in Pelham Street. Are any of my classmates still around now?
They were: Charlie Coverdale, Phillip and Vera Toynbee, Reggie Marchant, Roy Panling, Frank Morfield, Pat Kempshall, John Coombs, Gerald Aldridge, Bernard Goldberg, Joan Pettifor, Danny Smith, Ted Savage, Walter Gregory, Peter Field, Kenneth Gosling, Kenneth Gosling, Irene Peever and Rose Washington.
All of them lived nearby and were grateful for wonder teacher Percy “Pop” Chandler.
They might remember dashing for the air-raid shelter underneath Pelham Square.
