This Eurasian jay bird has taken up residence in a barbers shop in Brighton.

Barber Gholam Hossein Hamdollaho, 41, was walking home from work last Thursday night when he spotted the chick being attacked by a crow.

After scaring the crow off Mr Hamdollaho comforted the bird, which he has named “Baby Jay”, and took her home to attend to her.

Baby Jay has been living with him since, and now goes with him every morning to his recently-opened barbers, Cutters and Grinders, in Norfolk Square.

Mr Hamdollaho said: “I was distraught to see Baby Jaybeing attacked and couldn’t help but step in to save her.

“I scared off the crow and was upset to find Jay, who was so young, in such a poor condition.”

Baby Jay has now learned to fly – but will not leave Mr Hamdollaho’s side.

There have been a few tense moments for shop customers, where Baby Jay has flown out and not been seen for a few minutes.

However, much to the customers’ amusement, she returns every time.

Mr Hamdollaho continued: “Baby Jay is a hit with the customers.

“She is free to leave at anytime, but as of yet she has stayed by my side.”
