Being a Fit4 member, I was pleased to see the new fitness centre in Worthing but must say that, after using the gym, pool and health suite, I can only agree with the adverse comments I have read (The Argus, June 26), and would like to mention a few of my own points.

Access to the centre for members at busy periods when queues extend out of the main entrance and across the courtyard in the rain has not been planned for.

The changing room and locker layout for members has not been planned properly and is not big enough to accommodate more than six or eight people at a time.

The showers are too small and the floor is always wet and dirty.

Access from the members’ changing room to the pool and health suite is dangerous and too far to walk in only one’s swimwear as you have to use two flights of stairs and a corridor when you find the floor and stairs wet from other users.

I made a point on checking the use of the outside paddling pool. It may well be an expense which could have been put to better use because the only paddling I have seen going on is by several seagulls at a time, which can only develop into a health risk and frighten young children away.

My overall opinion of the new Splashpoint pool is that, in many ways, it is a big improvement over the Aquarina.

But the planning and layout of the facilities should have been given more thought early on, considering the area of the site and the adjoining land available.

Let’s hope some changes and reorganisation can be done.
