Emergency services were called out following reports of a fire at a flat in Horley.
Fire fighters were called to the blaze on Elm Tree Close, Horley, at around 11.30pm last night, which took several hours to extinguish.
A spokesman for Crawley Fire and Rescue Service said the flat was severely damaged and the occupant was treated for smoke inhalation.
An investigation is currently underway to establish the cause of the fire.
