A council is still £500,000 out of pocket following the collapse of banks in Iceland. Lewes District Council lost about £1 million in deposits when Landsbanki failed in 2008.

So far the local authority said it has received about £500,000 in payments, including £188,000 this year.

A report to the council’s cabinet to be discussed next week said the timing of future payments to the council “remains uncertain”.
