Cafe owners have had their plans to sell alcohol during Pride weekend rejected.

Café Tiere, in St James’s Street, Brighton, wanted permission to trade from a three by three square metre area adjacent to the doorway of its premises.

The plan was to trade from 9am to midnight from August 2 to 4.

But Sussex Police objected to the proposal on public health concerns, adding there were already a high number of licensed premises in the area.

The proposal was rejected by Brighton and Hove City Council’s licensing panel at a hearing in Brighton Town Hall yesterday.
