Fire fighters were called in the early hours of the morning after reports a car was on fire.
The car was parked on Hythe Road in Worthing when the fire started.
Emergency services were alerted at 1.58am.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said the fire was not deliberate but it is not clear what caused the accidental ignition.
