A team of 18 volunteers sprung into action to brighten up community gardens.

Staff from Raglan Housing gave up their time to tend to gardens for the housing associations in Abotts Close and Gladstone Close in Eastbourne.

The Ground Force-style team were armed with gloves, rakes, spades and litter pickers and spent the day tidying, weeding and creating flower beds in Gladstone Close, near Hampden Park train station.

The crew also cleaned overgrown areas on Abbotts Close roadside, replacing brambles and nettles with pretty flowering shrubs, bulbs and colourful hard landscaping.

The project was part of Raglan Community Week – an annual national event organised by the company in which staff volunteer their skills and time to deliver community based projects.

Raglan’s Matthew Man said: “It was a great day out and we all had fun cleaning up the gardens and overgrown grassy areas and making them look nice for people to enjoy for the summer.”
