Most 13-year-olds would be ecstatic with a score of 95 not out in a cricket match, but this was not the case for a youngster from Lindfield.

Arden Foster-Spink was playing for Sayers Common Sunday XI, where the oldest player is 64, and was the youngest player by about 20 years and the shortest player by about a foot.

The opposition, Balcombe Sunday XI tried in vain for 30 overs, to dislodge Arden from the crease.

The budding Sussex Shark was at the crease for more than two hours and faced every Balcombe bowler, none of whom could deal with his temperament and talent.

Hitting cuts, pulls and some audacious reverse sweeps, he and his partner Chris Kingscott (94 not out) set a record first wicket partnership for Sayers Common.

However, after coming off at the end of his industrious innings, the youngster was gutted to find out he finished just five runs short of his century.

If Arden carries on improving, he looks set to have a few hundreds under his belt.
