A woman has died following a serious collision on the A24, near Horsham.

Emergency services were called to the scene just north of Kingsfold at 7.29am on Thursday (July 4) where a Nissan Micra and Ford Focus had collided, blocking the northbound carriageway of the busy Horsham to Dorking road.

Both drivers were cut from their vehicles by firefighters. A 20-year-old woman from Dorking, who was driving the Nissan, was sadly declared dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old man from Horsham, driving the Focus, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with slight injuries.

The road was closed between the Great Daux and Clark's Green roundabouts while rescue, recovery and collision investigation work took place. It was re-opened shortly before 12.30pm.
