Travellers have relocated to a popular park – just hours before they were due to be evicted from playing fields.
About 20 vehicles created an unauthorised encampment on Carden Park in Hollingbury, Brighton, on Thursday evening, after moving from Braypool playing fields in Patcham.
Brighton and Hove City Council was due to carry out an eviction of the Braypool site on Friday morning.
A spokesman for the local authority confirmed it had visited the site with Sussex Police and it will continue to monitor the site.
The Argus understands the council is to go through the courts to get a possession order for the land.
The local authority's dedicated traveller transit site in Horsdean remains closed for maintenance work.
