A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison for breaking into two homes.
Joel Elliott, of no fixed address, broke into a home in Cheltenham Place, Brighton, and stole jewellery, two cameras and a laptop.
The burglary took place between 10.30am and midday on May 26. Elliott also smashed a window while trying to get into a house in East Drive, Brighton, shortly after 6pm on April 27, but escaped empty handed after disturbing the occupant.
He was jailed after admitting the two offences at Lewes Crown Court. Officers managed to catch Elliott after finding his fingerprints on a piece of white pole which had been left behind at Cheltenham Place.
Detective Constable Scott Elmer, of the Brighton and Hove Priority Crime Unit, said: "This is an excellent result for the people of Brighton and Hove as it means one more burglar off our streets.
"We will continue to deal robustly with anyone caught committing burglary in our city."
