In late 2011, I contacted Southern Water about a low-user tariff for single persons but was told no such tariff existed.

When I requested a water meter in early 2012, Southern Water informed me there was a planned schedule to fit them to all homes in my area shortly, so I should wait.

In the end, it was virtually autumn 2012 when my water meter was fitted.

Imagine the sense of betrayal when I received a letter this spring telling me that my water meter had just been switched on.

Had Southern Water charged for actual usage, I would of course be due a good rebate.

As I understand it, a water meter is effectively β€œon” as soon as it is fitted.

It seems Southern Water waited more than six months before billing me by the meter, not withstanding my request for a meter some 12 months earlier.

Curiously, Southern Water now tells me it has no record of my earlier water meter request...
