With the proposed building of more than 300 new council homes being a welcome initiative, is it not time to bring a halt to the “Right to buy” scheme introduced by Margaret Thatcher?

It has to be the worst idea ever concocted by a politician.

It has been widely acknowledged that selling off council houses and preventing councils from replacing them has led to the dreadful shortage in housing we are facing.

These new houses, while welcome, will barely make a dent in the list of 17,000 in Brighton waiting for a house that will never come.
