Blustery winds and rain failed to deter community spirit and nostalgia shining through at a vintage fete.

The event, held at Blind Veterans UK Brighton Centre in Greenways, Ovingdean, on Saturday has been hailed a major success.

The vintage fete is thought to have raised £1,000 for the charity, formerly known as St Dunstan’s, which provides support for armed forces veterans who have lost their sight.

Revellers on the day enjoyed a display of classic cars, live music and games while stalls and tents sold hot food and beers.

Rachel Chitty, the charity’s regional fundraising officer, said: “It went really well.

“We had a bit of rain but that didn’t deter us from having a lovely time.

“It was fantastic to see many members óof the Brighton community being entertained and having a good time.

“All money raised by events like this is essential to provide life changing services to blind veterans regardless of when they served or how they lost their sight.”
