Since the new bus lanes have been enforced in Lewes Road, the buses are getting fuller.

Andrew Boag of Brighton Area Buswatch says he spent the afternoon in the bus control centre, and says the buses are running more reliably (Letters, October 4).

All I can say is it must have been a show put on for him.

I live in the Coldean area and have to use the buses every day.

More often than not, the buses are late. The 25s often run two or three together, and are usually full of students before they even get to Coldean Lane.

The 24s often have at least one bus an hour missing because it’s running so late that the driver has been told to end his journey and drive to the end of his route in order to get back on schedule.

Last week, I stuck my hand out to indicate to the driver of a service 28 that I wished to board.

He ignored me and drove his mostly empty bus past the bus stop without stopping.

As others in your Letters pages have said, Lewes Road is now a car park and the buses still have to get through traffic between Bear Road and Elm Grove.

I am no expert but always understood that if traffic isn’t moving and vehicle engines are running, the traffic is causing pollution.
