Peter Willesden (Letters, October 23) takes a forthright tone about long-blighted Haddington Close in Hove.

In fact, the police have been working closely with the immediate neighbours in recent months, and Brighton and Hove City Council is taking steps over the dumped automobiles as part of a desire to spruce up the neighbourhood.

Various ideas are under consideration, such as opening one of the shops to the rear, along with other long-term proposals for a street which has, alas, long been regarded simply as the rear of George Street.

I should be glad to hear what Mr Willesden and other residents would like to see there.

Councillor Christopher Hawtree, Green, Central Hove ward, Brighton and Hove City Council
