Here’s a short story of a short trip in our great Green city.

I left work in Lewes the other day at 5.10pm and decided to call in on my dad at his nursing home in The Avenue in Lower Bevendean. Due to large amounts of traffic from the Coldean Lane junction I arrived at 5.43pm.

I left at 6.05pm (not long enough but Dad was tired).

I then thought to go and see my mum in Queen’s Park.

Again, due to the traffic (mostly not moving), I arrived at Mum’s at 6.25pm. I left her at 6.45pm and got home in Mouslecoomb at 7.10pm.

I watched cyclists pass through red lights in front of two police officers near the Brighton University site.

There are also three sets of crossing lights that most students ignore, crossing anywhere they like.

How can such a short trip taking one hour and 20 minutes of sitting in slow-moving traffic be called a success?
