Inquisitive motorists taking pictures of an overturned caravan on a busy carriageway have been warned to expect letters from the police.

A caravan being towed on the westbound carriageway of the A27, just after the Devils Dyke junction, overturned just before 2.30pm today (Friday).

But motorists who drove past with cameras and mobile phones in their hands, snapping away at the scene of the accident, were warned by Sussex’s Road Policing Unit to expect letters in the post.

A tweet from the RPU twitter feed read: “The overturned caravan has been cleared from the A27 at Hangleton.

“If you're one of the motorists who passed it, taking photos or videoing on your phone as you drove, expect a letter from us soon.”

The woman driver of the car towing the caravan escaped without injury.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “Just before 2.30pm on Friday October 25 a caravan being towed westbound on the A27 just after the Devils Dyke junction overturned and blocked the carriageway.

“The woman driving the towing car was not reported to be injured and no other vehicle was involved. The westbound carriageway was clear again by 5pm.”
