Brighton and Hove council chiefs have apologised for ongoing disruption to bin collections.

For the last month, thousands of householders across Brighton and Hove have seen their waste or recycling not collected by crews.

This is due to changes in rounds at the Cityclean depot in Hollingdean, which were intended to make the service more efficient.

At last count on Friday, more than 60 streets were waiting for their waste to be collected.

Writing to the council one householder in Denmark Villas, Hove, said: “Is it that Denmark Villas has been annexed by another local authority and is, therefore, no longer the responsibility of the council?

“Or perhaps your operations teams do not have maps of the area and are unable to find their way here?

“It might be a good idea to issue them with a sat nav.

“Seriously, the contents of the recycling boxes are overflowing and this is likely to become a health hazard if collections are not carried out soon.”

A statement on the council’s website said: “If you have not had a collection on your scheduled day please leave your recycling or rubbish out and we will collect the extra rubbish on your next collection day.

“Thank you for your patience. Our customer service team are experiencing a high volume of calls and emails so please bear with us while these changes take place.

“These changes to your collection days are being introduced to improve the efficiency of the service.

“Collections will now take place on bank holidays except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.”
