A dual carriageway has been partially closed due to the construction of a new bus and cycle lane.
Brighton and Hove City Council believes its changes to Edward Street, Brighton, will increase sustainable transport levels in the area.
The local authority said yesterday the outside lane had been closed in both directions for work to get underway.
The plan is to create a new combined bus, cycle and taxi lane on one length of the westbound carriageway in Edward Street.
A similar lane will be created eastbound from the junction with Upper Rock Gardens to the junction with Freshfield Road with a separate two-metre cycle lane from Pavilion Gardens to Upper Rock Gardens.
A series of new crossings will also be installed as part of the work, which should be completed next year.
