A selection of works by celebrated artist John Constable are to go on display in Sussex.
More than 40 watercolours and drawings will make up a special exhibition at Petworth House from tomorrow.
Many of the works are believed to have come from the artist’s 1834 visits to the 17th century mansion house.
As well as scenes of the house and nearby picturesque villages such as Tillington, Fittleworth and Bognor, there are drawings of Chichester Cathedral, Cowdray House and Arundel Castle.
Constable, who was also regular visitor to Brighton, had a house in Sillwood Road.
Curator Andrew Loukes, at Petworth , said: “It’s really exciting for us to be bringing back the remarkable body of work which Constable made around Petworth.
“To see these pictures reunited, and in the context of the environment which inspired them, is particularly special.”
