I read with interest the plans to reinvent the Promettes (The Argus, January 15).

What a good idea. They were always distinctive and a great advertisement for Brighton and Hove.

However, the thought that they will be dressed in T-shirts and cagoules is not nearly as good. The Promettes should be dressed in a way which makes us proud and leaves visitors feeling confident approaching for help.

What’s wrong with dressing them in flannel trousers and a royal blue jacket? It would be smart and eyecatching.
