Mike Weatherley writes to Greggs Chief Exec and says 'please keep our branch open'

The Argus: Greggs plea: Mike Weatherley Greggs plea: Mike Weatherley

Mike Weatherley has written to the chief executive of Greggs in a bid to get the bakery to keep their Hove branch open.

The Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has condemned the closure of Greggs in George Street. Mr Weatherley confirmed he had written to Roger Whiteside, to call on the company to "strongly reconsider their decision to shut down their branch in George Street in Hove".

A Mr Weatherley spokeswoman said: "Local residents and businesses have contacted Mike to give their support to Greggs remaining in place."

Mr Weatherley said: “Greggs is a major asset to the community and should not be closed down so readily. George Street is getting better all of the time and it seems just the wrong time to be leaving. I have offered to meet the Chief Executive of Greggs to see if the firm will reconsider.”

a desicion made by a company to close an outlet on commercial grounds is no concern of an MP,
Greggs is not a charity and there is no reason for it to keep a shop open if it feels it is not finacially viable. the tories are claiming to have reduced bureaucracy by 800 odd items of legislation only to replace that with over eager backbench MP

This is surely a joke ?
Greggs products are usually lacking in taste and quality. The so called hot foods that they sell are invariably luke warm and bland..

Greggs PLC.

Greasy formulaic dough and pastry for those lacking the imagination to try one of the many independent / small local company food outlets in the same street.

Good riddance to them.

Should save a few furred up arteries.

Been looking into this a bit more.

Seems this is the first campaign Wetherley has fronted in some considerable time.

Can't the Tories provide him with some better local advice?

The guy seems all at sea.

We face cuts by your government of £26 million this year and the same next year. Over the next few years the council, whatever its political affililiation, will be forced to cut social services, support for the voluntary sector, childrens centres, libraries, refuse collection; you name it, it will be cut.

Mike Weatherley, why don't you stop wasting time and get off your backside and fight for your city?
