Brighton novelist Peter James has spoken of his excitement at seeing his work performed on his home stage, writes Patrick Widdess.
Mr James attended the gala evening of the adaption of his bestselling novel The Perfect Murder at the Theatre Royal Brighton on Monday night.
He said: “I used to go to the theatre as a child and used to dream of seeing something I had written performed.
“It was a great moment seeing my work on stage.”

He said the play was much funnier than he thought it would be, thanks to a cast led by Les Dennis and Claire Goose.
Mr James said: “The cast are wonderful.
“They have done a great job of it.”
The performance played to a full house which included actor Anthony Andrews, Norman Cook Mayor Denise Cobb and retired police superintendent David Gaylor, who the character detective Roy Grace is based on.
The play runs at the Theatre Royal until Saturday.
