FOLLOWING all this talk about building a new town for an extra 10,000 people between Sayers Common and Henfield, here’s an idea.
If we really must have them in West Sussex, it would make much more sense to extend Burgess Hill westwards.
There is a great wad of land between our Jane Murray Way outer ring road and its excellent link with the A23.
All that may be necessary is an extension of the existing sewage plant (not far away) and these 10,000 people would be much nearer the shops, superstore, industrial estates and railway station of Burgess Hill, instead of stuck out in the middle of the countryside.
In any case, the proposed name of Mayfield is a silly name for this development because, as other correspondents have pointed out, there is already a Mayfield in Sussex.
