The two villas, 251 and 253 Preston Road, are described in your article as derelict (The Argus, January 28).

These two villas, joined by a low link block (not one building as described in the article), may be empty but they are not derelict.

In principle we welcome their conversion into flats but we will scrutinise the plans carefully.

These villas are important as they are the last remaining group of villas (235-253 Preston Road) which once stretched from the Rose Garden all the way to Patcham.

We hope the Southern Housing Group recognises the importance of keeping the character of 251 and 253 intact.

Both numbers 235 and 237, and 243 and 245 have been converted to flats and most of the character of these four villas remains intact. Perhaps they will be good examples to follow.
